As we creep towards Spring, here at Sturminster Marshall Preschool we have been looking at ways to improve our outdoor area. We are lucky to have a grassed area with a growing area, undercover sandpit and playhouse. We also have a tarmac area where we use bikes and trikes, a playhouse and mud kitchen together with climbing apparatus. Providing both shade an all weather outdoor area is what we are currently looking to develop. The children benefit so much from our lovely outdoor environment and as our Ofsted report 2017 stated ‘children freely make choices in how and where they play, enabling them to follow their own ideas’.

I would like to give a big thank you to Tesco community centre for donating some ex-display phones to the setting. These are placed in our home corner (which is currently a shop). They encourage conversation and recall of experiences and the children love them.

As Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year and Pancake Day all fall in half term this year, we are planning to cover these before and after half term week. We can’t miss out on these experiences as sharing traditions and other cultures helps children to recognise difference in their world.

If you have a child who is two years old or over and you would like to book a visit to the setting, please call the office 01258 858395.  We work a flexible system for booking and will cater for your individual needs where possible.  So many great friendships are built in Pre-School for both children and parents, which continue throughout their education and beyond.  Secure emotional attachments are recognised as an essential building block for education.

Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am – 3pm.

January 2018

May I begin by wishing you all a happy and prosperous new year from everyone at Sturminster Marshall Preschool.

There are busy times ahead at Sturminster Marshall Preschool as we begin our Wednesday sessions where the Rising 5 group will embark on new adventures. This starts with using the School hall for PE, including changing into shorts and T shirt in the Summer Term – lots of practice in preparation for ‘Big School’.

When we get closer to the end of the academic year we will join the school at morning playtime as well as having regular visits to the Reception class, building that important relationship with their next Teacher.

At Sturminster Marshall Preschool we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (2017) where we seek to provide ‘a secure foundation through learning and development opportunities which are planned around the needs and interests of each individual child….’ This stage continues through the Reception year also.

Our opening hours this academic year are:-

Monday to Friday 9am – 3pm

We take children from two years old. Please contact the office, 01258 858395, to book a visit or to discuss your child’s need and to find out about the Government funding available to you.

July 2017

There is fun everywhere at Preschool as the sun shines (albeit intermittently) and we take full advantage of our beautiful surroundings in the Preschool area and the school grounds.  Living in the countryside brings great pleasure along with a few safety issues.  Our role is to help children learn about and assess dangers in their environment in order to say safe.  This is partly done by leaving things like fungi and berries in their natural environment, using them to educate the children about what to recognise and the possible dangers.

School places have been confirmed and our leavers have a well-established routine for transition into the Reception class of our popular village school ensuring they know and feel secure in their future classroom and playground.   This is done through regular visits getting to know the environment, routine and become familiar with the teaching staff.  Planning this throughout the summer term ensures any worries and concerns can be addressed with a team approach involving both the school and the preschool staff

I would like to thank our fundraising team who have done a brilliant job raising over a thousand pounds at our quiz night. Thanks also to Badg Champion, our Quiz Master.

In May we had a visit from Ofsted for our formal inspection. Our overall outcome is GOOD in all areas. They said ‘Children enjoy their learning and make good progress’ and ‘Staff have a secure understanding of children’s interests and learning needs, and provide good support as children engage in their activities.’  This is a reflection of the dedication from practitioners and Committee.

We are currently arranging sessions for September 17/18, the start of our next academic year.  If you have a child who is 2 years old or above, please contact the office for more details of our Preschool.
